This information is provided by the St. Augustine Genealogical Society for genealogical research purposes only.
The cemetery records include transcriptions of almost all the cemeteries in St. Johns County Florida, many in Putnam County and a few in Illinois, Kentucky and Ohio.
A big thanks to C. Mack Wills, who has done a tremendous job walking the cemeteries and recording the data, and to Larry Rauch, who has been great in getting the data online and keeping it updated. Larry has also been responsible for most of the photographs of the cemeteries and he has put most of the cemeteries up on Find A Grave for researchers to access. Nancy Kalbach has also taken many pictures of the cemeteries and donated them for our use.
NOTE: If you do not find who you are searching for in the cemeteries, look in the death records for St. Johns County. Although several of our Cemetery databases have been updated with additions and corrections, you may find an ancestor not listed here who is listed in the death records.
Dear Ancestor
Your tombstone stands among the rest;
Neglected and alone.
The name and the date are chiseled out
On polished, marbled stone.
It reaches out to all who care
It is too late to mourn.
You did not know that I exist
You died and I was born.
Yet each of us are cells of you
In flesh, in blood, in bone.
Our blood contracts and beats a pulse
Entirely not our own.
Dear Ancestor, the place you filled
One hundred years ago
Spreads out among the ones you left
Who would have loved you so.
I wonder if you lived and loved.
I wonder if you knew
That someday I would find this spot,
And come to visit you.
