Who knows when we will be able to enjoy genealogy meetings at the library again, but fortunately we have options that will keep us safe and provide ways to continue our research and stay in touch with society members without leaving home.
The Research Resource Center is an open MeWe.com group. It will introduce you to an impressive collection of free resources to help your research efforts. All you need is to create your free account on MeWe.com then join the group. You will find it at https://mewe.com/join/researchresourcecenter.
NOTE: If you have a mobile device (phone or tablet), you can install the MeWe app and access these groups and more. With MeWe on your mobile device you can chat with other MeWe users via text, voice and even video.
SAGS members also have access to our Members Network group. If you would like to participate in this group, you first need to create an account at MeWe.com. Once that is done, request an invitation to the group. Contact Denise Olson at sags.publications@yahoo.com to request your invitation.
The Genealogy Research Resource Center also has a companion blog on Tumblr.com.
Tumblr is a blog platform that is free and easy to use. The Affordable Research blog shown here includes posts discussing our growing collection of affordable research resources.
Tumblr also has some impressive social features. Even if you don’t build your own blog, you can connect with others who do. Here are links to several useful Tumblr blogs available to our members:
Affordable Research – https://affordable-research.tumblr.com
Storytellers Studio – https://storytellers-studio.tumblr.com
Genealogy Toolbox – https://genealogytoolbox.tumblr.com
If you want to create your own Tumblr blog, the Tumblr Help Center shows you how easy it is to blog with Tumblr.
These resources make it possible for our members to stay connected safely now. Once the CoronaVirus is behind us, they will continue to support our members between meetings.
Final Notes
Each new post published at SAGS Support is automatically emailed to member subscribers and/or delivered to their newsreader. Research Notes is published every Monday morning and other articles are posted during the week. Subscribers have the option to control how often these updates are delivered. Look down at the bottom of this message and you will find a Manage Subscriptions link in the fine print as you see in this example. Click it and you will be taken to the WordPress.com Subscription Management page. Use the Delivery Frequency column to change your delivery options from “Immediate” to either “Daily” or “Weekly”.
Sample of the “fine print” at the bottom of each post.
Also down at the bottom of each delivered post is a Comment button. If you would like to comment on something discussed in a post or ask a question, just click the Comment button and you will be taken online to the comment section of the post where you can share your thoughts and read what others have shared.
