Research Notes

Zoomtopia kicks off Wednesday. It is a conference for Zoom users. What is Zoom? It’s a lifesaver for many of us making it possible to work from home, for students to continue their school work online and have easy access to their teachers.

That’s just the beginning. Many businesses are also finding they can keep their staff working from the security of their home. Students can get help from their teachers. Even genealogy societies are beginning to see how useful Zoom can be to support their members at home.

If you’re interested, it’s not too late to get registered and it won’t cost you anything. Go to https://zoomtopia2020.smarteventscloud.com to get started. Once you get registered, take a look around. You may find people you know at the conference.

Zoomtopia isn’t the only online conference . . .

Every week GenFriends hold a YouTube panel show. Cheryl Hudson Passey hosts with an impressive panel of genealogists including Melissa Barker (A Genealogist in the Archives), Bernice Bennett (Geniebroots), Dan Earl (the Family History Guy), Dr. Shelley Murphy (the Family Tree Girl) and Mary Kircher Roddy (MKR Genealogy). You’ll find the current panel show and an impressive collection of previous shows on YouTube. Once you are in YouTube, enter GenFriends in the search box and the screen will reload to display all the shows available.

Pat Richley – also known as DearMYRTLE – hosts Mondays with Myrt every week. Her discussions cover a broad range of topics. Her DearMYRTLE.com blog is also quite fascinating. NOTE: She also has a presentation on using Zoom for meetings.
