Research Notes is our weekly update bringing you the latest happenings in the genealogical community. News, deals and upcoming events are delivered to St. Augustine Genealogical Society members via your inbox or newsreader every Monday morning.

Our next meeting is Saturday, October 8th, beginning at 10:30am. Denise Olson is presenting an introduction to the Evernote notes platform with demonstrations on how it can revolutionize your research management.

October is Family History month. It’s a great time to work on generating new genealogists. Everyone loves old family photos so why not pull out some good ones and create a slideshow that tells a story? Here’s a bit of inspiration to get you started . . .

Click the image to start the slideshow. It will open in your browser and make take a few seconds to load.

Slideshows can be created from many photo-editing programs. Your presentation graphics app (PowerPoint or Keynote) give you even more options – including the ability to export to a movie file. The toughest part is picking out the photos.

FamilySearch hints

FamilySearch has added 141 million new hints in their online Family Tree. When you see the blue icon next to an individual in your tree, click it to view your hints. The purple signpost icon presents you with “research suggestions”. In my case, it was telling me that I have no sources for this person.

Support Spotlight

Have you visited the SAGS Support site recently? You’ll find a lot more research goodness there. The Online Events Calendar page is a good place to start. Thanks to Pat Richley (a.k.a. Dear Myrtle), this group calendar is where most of the online webinars, hangouts and programs are listed. It looks like there’s a series of programs on how to use FamilySearch scheduled for this week. Click on any title to get details on the event and how to participate.

Previous editions of Research Notes can be found in the News section.
