This collection includes transcribed records for a number of St. Johns County cemeteries. These records were transcribed by SAGS member C. Mack Wills.

Given that much of this data has also been entered into FindAGrave.com and updated there, you should check there also for updated information, photos, obits, etc.   Not all cemeteries may be available on FindAGrave.

Orangedale Cemetery

Florida - St. Johns County

Number of Names: 121

Orangedale Cemetery is located in St. Johns County County, Florida.

The cemetery is located at the corner of CR 13 and old CR 16, just past Wolf’s cutoff on the east side of the road.  It is an active and well-kept.

Our Lady of Good Counsel Cemetery

Florida - St. Johns County

Number of Names: 207

Our Lady of Good Counsel is located at SR 16 and Pacetti Road, Saint Augustine, St. Johns County County, Florida, 32092. 

It is on the east side of SR 16 just north of the Pacetti Road intersection.  To locate follow SR 16 west to Pacetti Road. Turn right on Pacetti Road and the cemetery is on the right side of the road.

The survey was compiled by C. Mack Wills on 1 Oct 2006 with an update 31 Mar 2011.  Some volunteer updates have occurred since then.

Pellicer Creek Cemetery

Florida - St. Johns County

Number of Names: 852

Pellicer Creek Cemetery is located at CR205 and SR 405, St. Augustine, St. Johns County County, Florida 32145. It was established in 1874. 

To locate take 95 south to CR 204, turn right (west).  Immediately after the two gas stations turn right (north) which is CR 204.  Go a few miles and eventually you will see the side on the left side of the road.  Turn left into the short paved driveway. Go to the fence and unhook the bungie cords to open the gates.  Be sure to close the gate and re-hook the bungie cords when you leave.  Wear boots.

Pinehurst Cemetery

Florida - St. Johns County

Pinehurst Cemetery and the adjacent San Sebastian cemeteries are located on Pearl Street in West St. Augustine, St. Johns County County, Florida. They are the oldest African American cemeteries in St. Johns County County, Florida.  They are also adjacent to Evergreen Cemetery.

To locate the cemetery starting from U.S. 1 & King Street, go west on King ¼ mile, at the railroad tracks is North Rodriguez Street (a tiny street, sharp turn), turn right (north), the street runs right into the cemetery entrance of Evergreen Cemetery.  Continue past gate to Evergreen, turn left alongside Evergreen  The cemetery is ahead on left.  It is overgrown and unkept.

Ponte Vedra Valley Cemetery

Florida - St. Johns County

Number of Names: 543

Ponte Vedra Valley Cemetery is located at 4750 Palm Valley Road, Ponte Vedra Beach, St. Johns County County, Florida 32082.

To locate from the north, take I-95 south to SR 202 J  Turner Butler Blvd then east to A1A.  Go south on A1A to turn right on Palm Valley Road.  Continuing south on Pal Valley Road, the cemetery is a few miles on the left.  From the south, take I-95 north to SR 210.  Take SR 210 east which becomes Valley Ridge Blvd.  At the intersection with Nocatee Parkway, take Nocatee Parkway east (right).  This turns into Palm Valley Road.  Continue until you reach the roundabout, circle 3 quarters the way around, turn right on Palm Valley Road (north).  The cemetery is two miles on the left.

Protestant Cemetery

Florida - St. Johns County

The Huguenot Cemetery was established 1821 and is located in Saint Augustine, St. Johns County County, Florida. This cemetery operated from 1821 until 1884 when a city ordinance prohibited further interments at both the Huguenot and Tolomato cemeteries.  It is located just outside of the City Gates and next to the Visitors Information Center. It is also known as Protestnat Cemetery.

In 1892, B. Frank Leeds, Esq. made an inventory of the inscriptions in the “Old Protestant Graveyard at St. Augustine, Florida” and published it in the New England Historical and Genealogical Register across five volumes of the publication. This is interesting since some of the wooden markers were still intact. A transcription of that inventory can be downloaded at Huguenot Cemetery Inventory.

Saint Ambrose Cemetery

Florida - St. Johns County

Number of Names: 475

Saint Ambrose Cemetery is located in Elkton, Florida.

To locate head southwest on SR 207 from St. Augustine, St Johns County, Florida.  About two miles west of Elkton turn right on Saint Ambrose Church Road then left on Church Road. Sign for the church is about four miles on the left.  Cemetery us on left just before the church.  As you enter the churchyard, turn left at the first driveway and follow it to the cemetery entrance.

Saint Augustine National Cemetery

Florida - St. Johns County

Number of Names: 2883

The Saint Augustine National Cemetery is located at 104 Marine Street, Saint Augustine, St. Johns County County, Florida, 32084.  It is just south of Saint Francis Barracks.

It was originally designated as a post cemetery when Florida became a U.S. territory in 1821. The first interment took place in 1828. Most of the early burials were soldiers who died in the Indian wars. In 1881 it was designated a national cemetery.

Sampson Cemetery

Florida - St. Johns County

Number of Names: 371

Sampson Cemetery is located on Brookhaven Drive, Saint Augustine, St Johns County, Florida 32092.

The cemetery is south of the St. Johns County Golf & Country Club.  To locate follow US 1 north to SR 210 and turn left.  Look for Maguire Road and turn left on Maguire continuing about a mile.  The cemetery is on the east side of the road.  Alternatively, take I-95 to SR 210.  Go west on SR 210 to Maguire Road.

San Lorenzo Cemetery

Florida - St. Johns County

Number of Names: 5561

San Lorenzo was the first Catholic cemetery established once the Diocese was brought to St. Augustine. It opened in 1892.  It is located at 1635 US 1 South, Saint Augustine, St. Johns County County, Florida, 32084.

There are various ways to arrive at the cemetery:  US 1 just north of SR 312 (on left); US 1 a few miles south of SR 207 (on right); Old Moultrie Road just north of SR 312 (on right); Old Moultrie Road a few miles south of Old Dixie Hwy (becomes Old Moultrie Road).

San Sebastian Cemetery

Florida - St. Johns County

Number of Names: 387

San Sebastian Cemetery is located in Saint Augustine, St. Johns County County, Florida. It is adjacent to Pinehurst Cemetery on the south side of Pearl Street where it meets Nassau Street.

San Sebastian is an historic African American cemetery and remains active.

Sanksville Cemetery aka Bakersville Cemetery

Florida - St. Johns County

Number of Names: 204

Originally named Bakersfield Cemetery, the name was changed to honor the Sanks family. It is located in St Johns County Florida.  It is also a Florida Heritage site.

To locate the cemetery from St Augustine, Florida, take CR 208 west to Joe Ashton Road. Turn right then turn right again onto the first dirt road. Follow it 100 feet to the cemetery.
