We have gathered many resources specific to Florida and the St. Augustine, St. Johns County area.
The Cemeteries & More section contains transcribed resources primarily from the St. Augustine Historical Society as well as cemetery information and surveys.
St. Johns County Public Library
The Southeast Branch of the St. Johns County Public Library maintains an impressive reference collection of genealogical material including over 1,200 genealogy related books and over 16,000 history books. It is located at 6670 U.S. 1 South – just north of the S.R. 206 intersection. You can use the online catalog to search for specific topics or titles. St. Johns County libraries also participate in the WorldCat project.
The St. Augustine Genealogical Society supports the genealogy collection at the Southeast Branch Public Library by contributing genealogy books to their collection.
Are you an ebook reader? You can borrow a growing number of electronic books – including genealogy and history titles – in your choice of Kindle, ePub or PDF format. You will need your library card number to access the catalogs in the eLibrary section of the site.
All St. Johns County libraries have public computers with free access to Ancestry.com and other online archives.
St. Augustine Historical Society
The St. Augustine Historical Society maintains a library at 6 Artillery Lane in downtown St. Augustine. Hours of operation are Tuesday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Their collection includes maps, photographs, vertical subject files, church records, circuit court cases, city government records, manuscript collections, circuit court records, and biographical files. An online catalog is also available.
There is no charge to use the library, but there are charges for photocopies. They do not allow cameras, camera phones or scanners in the library.
St. Johns County Clerk of the Circuit Court
The Clerk of Courts office is located off U.S. 1 north of St. Augustine in the County Administration Complex at 4010 Lewis Speedway, St. Augustine, Florida 32084 (which is also the mailing address). The office’s main phone number is (904) 819-3600 and the fax line is (904) 819-3661.
Hours of operation are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday thru Friday except for Holidays.
The Records Management Office maintains an archive dating back to Florida’s territorial days (1821) as well as Tax Rolls from 1887 to the present for St. Johns County. According to their website, they have a contract with the St. Augustine Historical Society for genealogical records. The Records Management Office can be reached by phone (904-819-3641) or email (Reccoc2@sjccoc.us).
Florida Bureau of Vital Statistics
The Bureau of Vital Statistics has three methods for providing service:

LDS Family History Centers
The FamilySearch.org website now provides a directory of Family History Centers. You must be logged into FamilySearch to view the directory. You can let the site determine your location or search for a specific area. The results list all FHCs nearby with links to each FHC’s page in the directory. These pages include center hours, contact information and details about the records and services that are available.
Local Family History centers include The St Johns Florida Family History Center and the St Augustine Florida Family History Center.

The University of Florida’s P. K. Yonge Library of Florida History includes a number of local collections like Spanish Colonial Records, maps, Civil War collections, black history collections and World War II collections.

Los Floridanos Society for descendants of the children born to the Spanish settlers who came to Florida during the first Spanish period (1565-1763).

The Florida State Genealogical Society’s Florida Pioneer Descendants Certification Program honors descendants of Florida pioneers who settled in the Territory of Florida prior to Florida achieving statehood on 3 March 1845.

Index to the East Florida Papers – a collection of documents (still only available on microfilm) – which contains the complete local government archive of Spanish East Florida (1784 to 1821).
